The town of Tremp
After being directed to the cottage by friendly locals, we've been welcomed by its owner. A middle age english lady appeared at its doorstep and greeted us with smile! Rightaway she invited us over, showed us around and told us everything necessary. Things such as, where is the closest town, where can we find shops, restaurants, tourist centre, etc. She handed over the key, left me her contact number in case we need anything, and then left together with her female husky. Nero and her female did greet each other quite well. As usual, Nero acted like Casanova, trying to put on his charm in order to seduce her. And it worked! Lucky DOG, I say!!!!

Standing on the terrace looking down at the beautiful scenery beneath it, it suddenly felt so lonely around. Like there was no one else, just Nero and I, both surrounded by vast open space, in far distance enclosed by natural wall of the Pyrenees mountains, with its peaks gently touching the sky. Kites and vultures were circling overhead, and a small terrace geckoe came along, to say hello! Nero didn't know what it was, and first growled at it, then played sort of hide and seek with it. He was the one hiding from it, once behind the pots with plants, other time underneath the table. The geckoe remained chilling on the side of the wall, enjoying the late afternoon sun, and watching Nero's silly tricks with amusement. Once Nero realized the geckoe wasn't bothered much by his presence, he crawled onto one of the sunbeds and made him self at home! Whilst Nero was trying to get his tan on, I carried all the luggage in from the car. At least, each time I came upstairs with one bag, he rushed over to give me quick kisses, then disappeared back onto the terrace. The King was surely enjoying his stay!!! It's about time to drive down and discover the local town of Tremp, and do some quick grocery shopping.

Tremp is a bustling market town of considerable local importance due to the isolation of the region. Given that its resident population is only about 3500 its numerous butchers, fishmongers, patisseries, bakers, grocers, haberdashers etc. plus a large Monday market draws large numbers of shoppers from the surrounding villages - the only time when there could be said to be a traffic problem! NB. Although Tremp is only ten minutes drive away on a quiet secondary road, the town itself is hidden behind a mountain and cannot be seen from FĂgols.

Driving here was pretty easy, just make sure you keep on the right side of the road, could be confusing when you come from UK. Roads were almost empty and streets just started to fill with locals after their midday siesta. It was around 5.00pm, and we were lucky to come down at this hour, because most shops are closed from 2.00pm-5.00pm. Shopping went smooth, lot's of fresh produce to choose from and for a good price! To get meat from the butcher, was however harder not being able to speak much spanish, and with most locals here speaking no word of english, I went back to hand signal practice. As soon as they got the hang of it, the butcher packed me with some fresh meat, and off I went. With enough food to keep us going for few days, we drove back to Casa, checked the maps and set out on our first excursion!
To be continued....
